the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ will be the 19th instance of the
FIFA World Cup™, the quadrennial international football world championship tournament. since it’s inception in the 1930’s, the soccer world cup has inspired nations and raised up heroes. in the host countries it has been a catalyst for growth, change and renewal. south africa will be no exception and the event is estimated to contribute at least R51.1-billion to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

the 2006 World Cup still stands as one of the most watched events in television history, garnering an estimated, record viewership of over
26 billion non-unique viewers over the course of the tournament. no doubt that 2010 will beat those numbers!

the tournament takes place every four years and more than 160 national teams battle it out during the ‘continental zone’ qualifying rounds to secure a spot amongst the top 32 teams that will finally form the basis of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. loyal followers of the soccer glitterati will no doubt be well versed on the top teams and top players to follow for 2010 as four time winners, italy, defend their 2006 title.
